A monarch by the name of Midas once performed a kindness for a satyr, a natural spirit. He then got a wish from the god of wine, Dionysus.
Midas hoped that everything he came into contact with would become gold. Midas begged that this was a great request, and Dionysus tried to stop it, but in the end, the wish was granted.
Midas began touching other objects, transforming them into flawless gold as he became excited about his just earned abilities.
Midas, though, soon felt hungry. As he took up the meal, he realized he couldn’t eat it. In his hand, it had become golden.
Full of hunger, I’ll starving, Midas murmured. Maybe this wasn’t a really great request after all!
When Midas’ beloved daughter saw him in shock, she flung her arms around him in comfort, and she too turned to gold. “The golden touch doesn’t count as favor,” Midas cackled.
