Punctuation marks worksheet for grade 1

Punctuation is the name for the marks that we use to make our writing clear and to complete sentences like question marks, exclamation points, commas, full stop etc.

Grade 1 children begin to learn the basic punctuations which help them to read and write correctly.

Common punctuations with their descriptions:

  1. Period (.): It tells the end of a sentence. E.g. The sun is shining. The sky is clear.
  2. Comma (,): It separates elements in a list and shows pauses within a sentence. E.g. I like swimming, but today I can’t swim because I am having fever.
  3. Exclamation Mark (!): This indicates strong emotion or emphasis. E.g. Really! Now I know why you like this place so much.
  4. Question Mark (?): It indicates a question. E.g. Where are you going tomorrow?
